A stunning five bedroom double-fronted house for sale in popular Upper Leytonstone. With generous accommodation and wonderful original features, this property also benefits from a large, detached garage – perfect for several vehicles or to be used as a studio, workshop or self-contained living quarters.
The impressive façade of this Victorian villa displays all the hallmarks of its Arts and Crafts design theme, with elaborate floral architectural elements and period front door with stained glass inserts and surrounding glazing. There’s off-road parking for several vehicles on the driveway.
The hallway continues the architectural theme with tall skirting boards, bold timber trim, deep coving and restored original floorboards, all of which extend into the impressive reception rooms.
Reception one is a through-space extending from the front bay window to a French door with stained glass, opening out to the rear garden and there are twin fireplaces with marble surrounds and original glazed tiles. The second reception has another impressive bay window, along with bespoke bookcases and another striking fireplace.
Off the hallway is also a downstairs shower room, ideal for busy families. There’s also a useful storage cellar accessed via an understairs doorway.
The kitchen features solid timber cabinets and extend into the adjacent utility area. Beyond the kitchen, a timber framed conservatory offers plenty of space for relaxed dining and lounging areas. Beautiful, exposed brickwork cleverly contrasts with a contemporary tiled floor and part-glazed doors lead out to the garden – a large space which features a paved terrace and lawned area bordered by mature shrubs and trees.
A unique and exciting feature of this property is the huge detached, brick-built insulated garage, which has electrically operated twin doors, as well as windows and a personnel door opening to the garden. At almost 800 sq ft, there’s room for several vehicles and has a RSJ spanning the 33ft width of the garage for lifting engines, as well as plenty of storage space, or the potential to convert for any purpose you could imagine.
The split-level landing provides access to the five bedrooms, family bathroom, storage space and loft hatch. With four large double rooms and a large single room there’s plenty of space for a large active family. The single has built-in open storage and the fabulous main bedroom benefits from a large bay window and an exquisite cast iron and tiled fireplace.
Upper Leytonstone is, for good reason, a very popular location. The quiet residential streets provide a peaceful and friendly neighbourhood, whilst all the amenities you could ever need are close by. Over the years the area’s facilities have improved with Westfield Shopping Centre at Stratford just 2 tube stops away, the Olympic Park swimming pools and sports facilities, the upgraded London Overground service at Leyton Midland Rd at Abbotts Park near the bottom of Forest Drive West and the new Elizabeth Line which goes from Stratford to Reading. The Central line is a 7 minute walk and there are the W15 and W19 buses just around the corner on Essex Rd heading to Walthamstow, Ilford and Hackney. This also a perfect location if you enjoy the great outdoors, with Hollow Pond and Leyton Flats just a five minute stroll and Wanstead Flats, Hackney Marshes and the Walthamstow Wetlands Nature Reserve all within easy reach.
Sellers comments..
We have lived in Forest Drive East for 22 years and many neighbours have lived there for even longer. The tree lined road is peaceful, friendly and ideal for families. In 2001 it was known as the best address in Upper Leytonstone with beautiful double fronted houses and garages at the rear of the properties with access from James Lane. We were attracted to the area primarily because of Epping Forest which runs to 6000 acres and starts opposite Whipps Cross Hospital. Over the years, we have enjoyed cycling, dog walking and keeping a horse in Epping Forest. ‘There really is no better place to live in London ‘ however the time has come to sell the house as we have decided to move outside of London, and we will be offering a chain free sale.
