It is difficult to think of many amenities that Marlborough lacks. It boasts the second widest high street in the UK, and is host to a fantastic range of shops, cafes, restaurants, and public houses, all within a very short walk of the front door of Kingsbury House. It is certainly the many independent and boutique business that help Marlborough retain its character and charm. The picturesque historic high street itself provides many interesting and architecturally important buildings. Mentioned in the Domesday book of 1097 as ‘Merleberge’, Marlborough was later granted market town status in 1204 by King John. There is still a twice weekly market to this day selling everything from fruit and veg to hardware and garden furniture.
