A Grade II Listed 15th century two bedroom cottage situated at the end of a small row of cottages set back from the road with a garage and parking. The house is believed to date back to 1450 and originally stood as a house on its own. The Elizabethan chimneys and inglenook would have been added to the building possibly in the 16th century. Also, at this time it is thought that the external walls were bricked from the ground floor to the first-floor level.
During the 17th/18th century the whole row (4-6 High Street) was used as one house which was converted into workmen’s cottages sometime during the Victorian era, at which time 8 High Street was two cottages.
During the early 1990’s planning permission was obtained to renovate 6 and 8 High Street. This involved removing and reinstating the roof, removing all the false ceilings, opening the inglenook fireplaces including a bread oven. and installing new damp proof on the ground floor. During the renovation, medieval plasterwork on the first floor was uncovered and preserved by specialist conservationists.
