The Village of Hightae is steeped in history being one of the "Royal Four Towns" of Lochmaben. It has an active community hub with a village hall and a primary school. Hightae lies close to the River Annan which is popular with anglers.
The undulating countryside offers a variety of walking choices and leisure activities. It is understood that residents of the Royal Four Towns may fish on a stretch of River Annan from Shillahill Bridge to Smallholmburn. As a Result of local funding availability, local services and facilities, including the local primary school, are understood to be particularly well-resourced.
The village of Hightae was founded by Robert the Bruce in the 14th Century. Hightae lies approximately four miles from Lockerbie and is therefore well-placed to easily access the nearby M74 motorway and rail links to both north and south. As Hightae is one of the "Royal Four Towns", it is understood that free fishing rights are available to village residents.
The village of Lochmaben lies less than three miles to the north where everyday amenities such as a doctor's surgery, local shops and a bakery are available, as well as primary schooling. Lockerbie, approximately three miles away, offers primary and secondary schooling, a supermarket, a range of professional services and banking facilities.
Dumfries, 10.5 miles to the west, is a thriving town which provides a wide range of facilities including the Dumfries Royal Infirmary and an excellent range of shops, supermarkets, sports clubs and professional services.
