Red Lion Cottage is situated in East Knoyle, a popular and pretty village and birthplace of Sir Christopher Wren, which lies to the to the north of the Saxon market town of Shaftesbury. The Green, one of four hamlets within East Knoyle, has a popular pub, The Fox and Hounds; the village has a highly regarded village post office and shop, while Shaftesbury has a good range of facilities including supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, niche retailers, a boutique hotel, banks, a small hospital, a library, a health centre and an arts centre.
