A Grade II Listed timber framed, thatched five bedroom detached cottage, dating back to the 17th century, on the edge of a village with driveway parking, a garage with a circular wine cellar and gardens overlooking fields. Approached via a minor road through the village, Hermits Cottage is surrounded by established, enclosed gardens overlooking fields. Built in the 17th century (with 18th-century alterations), the two-storey main cottage has a ‘stack on stack’ timber frame on a rubblestone base with brick infill walls under a half-hipped thatch. On the southwest end a modern two bay brick extension has dormer windows in a tiled roof over double garage doors on the ground floor. A single storey, tiled stone lean-to extends the northeast end. Apart from an early first-floor mullioned window, there are contemporary wooden casement windows throughout. The front of the house has colour-washed render on the ground floor; the rear elevation is exposed brick. Thoughtfully updated, the interior retains many period features including an inglenook fireplace, exposed original timbers and authentic ledge and brace doors. The height of the rooms, notably on the first floor, is unusual for a cottage of this era.
