This two-bedroom ground-floor apartment sits on a peaceful street in Dulwich, south-east London. Recently redesigned, it has been finished to an exacting standard throughout, with fresh, light interior spaces that make the most of the building's generous proportions. The cafés, restaurants and shops of Forest Hill are within easy reach, while the amenities of Dulwich village are less than a half-hour walk (or eight-minute cycle) to the north.
The Tour
The apartment lies on the ground floor of a handsome Victorian house. It has a private front door, accessed via a decked walkway executed in tropical hardwood. Entry is to a generous hallway with a large bathroom on the left-hand side; this is home to a walk-in shower and decorated with terrazzo tiles. The scheme is completed by Lusso Stone fixtures and fittings.
Cohesively designed, the remainder of the apartment is grounded by engineered oak flooring, while Corstan architectural spotlights, switches and handles have been used throughout. A Nest heating system warms the apartment.
The open-plan living spaces lie at the rear of the plan, with floor-to-ceiling, double-glazed hardwood sash windows that flood the space with natural light and frame green views. There is ample room for separate living and dining areas in front of the the kitchen, which extends along the rear wall. The latter is by Bloq Designs and is formed of bespoke pink and green cabinetry set against quartz worktops. Built-in appliances include a dishwasher, Neff oven and a Bosch fridge/freezer.
Soaring ceilings in both of the apartment's peaceful bedrooms lend a real sense of volume to each space, while sash windows draw in plenty of natural light.
The Area
Forest Hill is an exceedingly popular area of south-east London, in part due to the London Overground extension. As a result, there are plenty of very good independent cafés, restaurants and pubs in the area including Bona, Pantry, Aga’s Little Deli and St David for coffee. The Horniman Museum is a popular destination for young families, with a child-friendly café, anthropological museum and farmers’ market every Sunday morning.
Dulwich village is around a half-hour walk, or under a 10-minute bus, to the north. Here, Dulwich Picture Gallery is a popular spot, as is deli/café Romeo Jones. Brockwell Park and its lido lie just beyond, though Dulwich Park is even closer to home. Crystal Palace is a quick bus, drive or cycle to the south of the apartment.
Forest Hill station is approximately 12 minutes away on foot, where regular services run to London Bridge in around 12 minutes. The station is also part of the London Overground, with trains to Dalston via Canada Water (Jubilee line), Shadwell (DLR), Shoreditch High Street and Whitechapel (District and Hammersmith and City lines).
