Pen y Ffordd has long been a popular choice among discerning home buyers and with good reason. Although in recent years it has grown like Topsy it has nevertheless managed to retain that genuine village atmosphere that makes places like this feel special. It is a place where many aspire to live and, having finally managed it are reluctant to leave meaning that there is always fierce competition for homes coming onto the market, so if it is a bungalow you seek and for many nothing else will do, make sure you see this one.
At the very end of a long cul-de-sac on the outskirts of the village (but don't panic, everything you need remains in easy walking distance) we find this delightful home. If I am honest, from the front it looks ok but there is nothing to prepare you for something out of the ordinary; in this, it is almost what I would call a 'stealth home'.
A low wall separates the pavement from the neat front lawns, one either side of the centrally placed main door while to one side a short driveway gives access to the detached double garage. A shallow recessed porch gives protection to the front door and also succour to rain soaked carol singers come Christmas. Through the front door we find an 'L' shaped hallway with the lounge to our right and the kitchen straight ahead. Turning left however, brings us first to the family bathroom, conveniently placed almost in the centre of the building. This is fully tiled in white, meaning it will never go out of fashion - how things like bathrooms have come to represent fashion statements beats me but there you are - and contains a suite comprising, slightly unsurprisingly, of a pedestal hand basin, lavatory and a traditional bath with a glass side screen preventing too much splash-back from the mains shower above.
Moving further along the hallway there are two more doors, the left one leading into the front facing double bedroom. I don't know why I mention that as all the bedrooms are doubles, and comfortably proportioned ones at that. Part of one wall is taken up by a fitted wardrobe which leaves masses of room for the bed and any bedside cabinets you may want.
On the other side of the hall its counterpart, overlooking the rear garden has a similar wardrobe but as if this were not enough, there is also an arch leading into a small dressing area with more wardrobes and a full en-suite with hand basin, loo and large walk in shower cubicle with an extravagant looking twin headed rain shower to blast away those morning cobwebs.
Moving back down the hall past the front door we enter the lounge where the home really begins to assert its class. This large room features a highly polished solid wood floor and is kept beautifully bright by the twin aspect windows overlooking the front and rear respectively, before an archway leads us into the dining room, illuminated by the daylight flooding in from the sun room through the sliding patio doors.
A further door from the dining room reveals the third bedroom which, although initially feeling something of an afterthought proves anything but, being a comfortably sized double room with plenty of space for free standing furniture along with the obligatory double bed.
Returning to the kitchen we find a well thought out and immaculately presented room which, with its various casual eating spaces and stools also manages to provide a social space where the family can relax and chew the fat. However the central purpose of the kitchen is to feed people and this is achieved in some style with the impressive five burner range style cooker. There is a door from here into the huge sunroom stretching across the full width of the building with its ceramic flooring and stunning panoramic ceiling light, something which makes astronomy a more comfortable hobby than it has ever been.
Outside the back door we step onto the huge wrap-around patio from where the scale of the garden becomes apparent and it is possible to appreciate the views of the distant hills above the perimeter fencing. The garden is laid almost exclusively to lawn, thus keeping essential maintenance to a minimum but never think that this makes it appear stark, far from it. There are numerous large planters dotted around the perimeter of the patio and a selection of young trees that have been positioned around the lawn and which in the fullness of time will present a very attractive outlook. Various seating areas enable you to follow the sun around the garden, taking maximum advantage of this truly bucolic scene. There is a garden shed with power in the right hand corner of the lawn, mirrored by a greenhouse to the left while alongside this is the piece de resistance. There is a log cabin style outhouse with centrally placed twin front doors and which contains a massive hot tub so even if the summer never arrives, you won't care. And nor will your many new friends, the majority of whom you haven't even met yet but word is sure to get around...

All in all this home is radically different than it first appears. "Three bed bungalow" reads the estate agent's blurb, but it is so much more than that, offering real style with spacious accommodation and finished to exacting standards and vitally, in the location you want. For those needing transport links for commuting purposes there are major routes to Wrexham, Chester, Deeside and beyond and with the shopper's paradise that is Broughton Park on your doorstep, everyone should be happy. If you have children there are excellent local schools, both primary and secondary and all the facilities for leisure you could wish for. What's not to love?
